GLP-1 Nutrition Support
GLP-1 medications have changed the conversation around weight and metabolic health, but the medication is only one part of the picture. What you eat while your appetite and body are changing matters a great deal. At Body Fusion, our Accredited Practising Dietitians provide nutrition support for people who are using, or have been prescribed, GLP-1 medications by their doctor, so you can look after your nutrition, muscle and long-term habits. Care is available across our Sydney clinics and via telehealth Australia-wide.

Nutrition Support Alongside Your Medical Care
GLP-1 medications are prescribed and managed by your doctor. Our role is different and complementary. As dietitians, we do not prescribe, supply or adjust medication. We focus on the nutrition side of your care, helping you eat well while your appetite is lower and supporting the habits that carry your health forward.
When appetite drops significantly, it can become harder to meet your needs for protein, vitamins, minerals and overall nutrition. Working with a dietitian can help you make the most of the food you do eat, so you support your body rather than simply eating less of everything. Any decisions about your medication remain between you and your prescribing doctor.
How a Dietitian Can Help While Using GLP-1 Medications
Reduced appetite can be helpful for some goals, but it also brings nutrition challenges. Our dietitians support you with the practical, everyday side of eating well. Common areas we help with include:
Prioritising adequate protein to help support the maintenance of muscle mass, which can be a concern during rapid appetite reduction
Making smaller appetites count by focusing on nutritious foods, so you still meet your needs for vitamins and minerals
Practical eating strategies to help with common gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, fullness or changes in digestion
Building a realistic rhythm of eating when hunger cues are different from what you are used to
Supporting digestion and general wellbeing while your intake changes
Building sustainable eating patterns that can support you if your medication changes or stops in future
If you’re unsure whether diabetes dietetics is the right fit for your needs, share your situation during your Discovery Call and our team will guide you from there.
Who This Service Is For.
You are welcome here whether you have just started a GLP-1 medication, have been using one for a while, or are working with your doctor on next steps. We commonly support:
If you have a history of disordered eating, we take extra care to provide compassionate, weight-inclusive support, and we work as part of a broader team where appropriate. You can read more about our Eating Disorder Dietitian service.
Our Approach
01
Complementary to your doctor
We work alongside the doctor who prescribes and manages your medication, never in place of them.
02
Evidence-based
Our nutrition guidance is grounded in current clinical understanding of appetite, protein needs and metabolic health.
03
Personalised, not prescriptive
Your plan is built around your appetite, preferences, culture, schedule and goals, rather than a rigid meal plan.
04
Compassionate and non-judgmental
Calm, supportive sessions with no weight-shaming language, whatever your starting point.
03
Medicare and Private Health Rebates.
No referral is required to book a private appointment with our dietitians. If you are managing a chronic condition such as type 2 diabetes, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on dietitian appointments through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan from your GP, which can include up to five rebated allied health sessions per calendar year for eligible clients.
Many private health funds also offer rebates for dietitian consultations under extras cover. Eligibility and rebate amounts vary, so your GP and your health fund are the best people to confirm what applies to you.
How to access your rebate
Three steps from your GP’s office to your first appointment with us.
01
Book an appointment with your GP and ask about a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan
02
If your GP agrees you are eligible, they prepare the plan and a referral for dietetic services
03
Bring the referral to your first appointment; we process the Medicare rebate at the time of service for eligible clients, so you pay the gap

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we hear from clients considering working with a dietitian on their weight.
No. As dietitians, we do not prescribe, supply or adjust any medication. GLP-1 medications are prescribed and managed by a doctor. Our role is to provide the nutrition support that complements your medical care, such as protein, nutrient density and managing side effects with food. Any questions about the medication itself should go to your prescribing doctor.
A reduced appetite can make it harder to meet your needs for protein, vitamins and minerals, and rapid changes can affect muscle. A dietitian helps you make the most of the food you do eat, support the maintenance of muscle, manage side effects and build habits you can keep. This is about eating well, not simply eating less.
Supporting adequate protein and overall nutrition is an important part of caring for muscle mass during weight change. We provide practical, personalised guidance to help you prioritise protein and nutrient-dense foods. Individual needs and outcomes vary, and we tailor our recommendations to you and your circumstances.
No referral is needed to book a private appointment. If you would like to access Medicare rebates and you are managing a chronic condition, you would need a referral from your GP under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Your GP can advise whether you are eligible.
Many people want to understand how to maintain their progress over the long term. We focus on building sustainable eating patterns and habits that can support your health whether you continue, change or stop your medication in future. Decisions about the medication itself are made with your prescribing doctor.
Yes. Our GLP-1 nutrition support is available via secure telehealth video consultations Australia-wide, as well as in person at our Sydney clinics. Telehealth is a convenient option if you live outside Sydney, travel often, or prefer to meet from home.
