How Nutrition Supports Diabetes Management
What you eat has a meaningful influence on blood glucose levels, energy and long-term health when you live with diabetes. Managing the condition is rarely just about food, but nutrition is one of the most practical levers you can work with day to day. Our dietitians translate current clinical guidelines into realistic changes that fit your routine, rather than rigid rules that are hard to maintain.
We take a blood-glucose-aware approach that considers the type and timing of carbohydrates, overall dietary pattern, your medications and your lifestyle. Dietary and lifestyle changes may help support blood glucose management and general wellbeing, though outcomes vary between individuals and any changes to your management plan should be made in collaboration with your GP and specialists.
A plan built around how you actually live.

Diabetes We Support
Our dietitians provide nutrition support across the different types of diabetes, working alongside your medical team where appropriate.
Practical, evidence-based nutrition to support blood glucose management alongside your medication and GP reviews. We focus on carbohydrate quality and distribution, balanced meals, portion strategies and sustainable habits that work with your preferences rather than against them.
If you have been told your blood glucose is higher than normal but not yet in the diabetes range, nutrition and lifestyle changes are an important part of care. We help you make realistic adjustments that may support healthier blood glucose levels, in collaboration with your GP.
Support with carbohydrate awareness, carbohydrate counting and meal timing to help you manage blood glucose alongside your insulin regimen. We work with your endocrinologist and diabetes team, and tailor guidance to your day-to-day life, activity and goals.
Nutrition support during pregnancy for women managing gestational diabetes, focused on balanced eating and carbohydrate distribution to help support blood glucose while meeting your and your baby's nutritional needs. We work alongside your maternity and medical team throughout.
If you’re unsure whether diabetes dietetics is the right fit for your needs, share your situation during your Discovery Call and our team will guide you from there.

Every plan is built around your diagnosis, your test results, your medications and how you actually eat. Common areas we support include:
Our Approach
01
Personalised to you
Your plan is built around your specific type of diabetes, your bloods, your medications and your preferences, not generic advice.
02
Working alongside your medical team
We are happy to liaise with your GP, endocrinologist or diabetes educator, with your consent, so everyone is aligned on your goals.
03
Sustainable, not restrictive
The focus is realistic habits you can maintain, rather than short-term restrictive diets or rigid meal plans.
04
Evidence-based
Recommendations are grounded in current clinical guidelines for diabetes and metabolic health.
03
Medicare Rebates
Through a CDM Plan.
Diabetes is a chronic condition, so many clients are eligible for Medicare rebates on dietitian appointments through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan from their GP. Under this scheme, eligible clients can access up to five rebated allied health sessions per calendar year, which can include dietitian consultations. Eligibility and rebate amounts vary, and your GP is the best person to confirm whether you qualify.
How to access your rebate
Three steps from your GP’s office to your first appointment with us.
01
Book an appointment with your GP and ask about a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan
02
If your GP agrees you are eligible, they prepare the plan and a referral for dietetic services
03
Bring the referral to your first appointment; we process the Medicare rebate at the time of service for eligible clients, so you pay the gap

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we hear from clients considering working with a dietitian on their weight.
No. You can book a private appointment without a referral. A referral is only needed if you would like to access Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan from your GP. Your GP can advise whether you are eligible based on your condition.
Nutrition plays an important role in managing type 2 diabetes, and evidence suggests that dietary and lifestyle changes can meaningfully improve markers such as blood glucose in some people. Outcomes vary between individuals, and any changes to your management, including medication, should be made in collaboration with your GP and specialists rather than on your own.
Not in most cases. Carbohydrates are still an important part of a balanced diet for most people with diabetes. Rather than cutting them out, we focus on the type, amount and timing of carbohydrates, and on finding swaps and strategies that fit your preferences and lifestyle.
Yes. We regularly collaborate with GPs, endocrinologists, diabetes educators and other clinicians, and can provide updates or correspondence to your medical team where appropriate, with your consent, so your care stays joined up.
Yes. We support women managing gestational diabetes with practical nutrition guidance focused on balanced eating and carbohydrate distribution, while meeting the nutritional needs of pregnancy. We work alongside your maternity and medical team throughout.
Yes. All of our diabetes nutrition support is available via secure telehealth video consultations Australia-wide, as well as in person at our Sydney clinics. Telehealth is a convenient option if you live outside Sydney, travel often, or prefer to meet from home.
This depends on your type of diabetes, your goals and where you are in your management. Many clients start with an initial consultation followed by regular reviews, then move to less frequent maintenance appointments once their plan is established. Your dietitian will recommend a schedule that suits your situation.
