DIY low FODMAP is
where most gut
health journeys go
wrong.
The low FODMAP diet is one of the most well-researched dietary approaches for IBS — and one of the most commonly attempted without proper support. These three principles are why working with a Monash-trained dietitian makes the difference.
01
Restriction with a clear endpoint
We use dietary restriction only where it’s clinically indicated — never as a long-term plan. Every elimination phase comes paired with a clear, structured reintroduction so your diet ends wider, not narrower.
02
Monash-trained, current evidence
Our dietitians have completed further training with Monash University — the institution that developed the low FODMAP diet. The guidance you receive is grounded in the most current evidence and clinical protocols.
03
Joined-up with your medical team
We work alongside your GP, gastroenterologist or other treating clinicians where appropriate, so your nutrition care sits inside the broader picture of your gut health — not separate from it.
03
Done properly, low FODMAP is a structured, three-phase clinical process — not a long-term restrictive diet.
Each phase has a purpose, a clear endpoint, and is paced to your symptoms and lifestyle.
3
structured phases
Elimination → Reintroduction → Personalisation. Your diet should end wider than it started.
Monash University developed the low FODMAP diet. Our
dietitians have completed their advanced training.
01
Phase 1 — Elimination
A short, supervised reduction of FODMAP foods (typically 2–6 weeks) to assess whether your symptoms respond.
02
Phase 2 — Reintroduction
Systematic reintroduction of FODMAP groups, one at a time, to identify your specific triggers and tolerance thresholds.
03
Phase 3 — Personalisation
A long-term, personalised eating pattern that keeps your triggers manageable while reintroducing as much variety and nutrition as possible.

No referral is required to book a private appointment. If you would like to access Medicare rebates, you will need a referral from your GP under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan. Your GP can advise whether you are eligible.
Eligible clients with chronic conditions may access Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan from their GP. Many private health funds also offer rebates for dietitian consultations under extras cover. Rebate amounts vary, so check with your fund to confirm your level of cover.
The structured low FODMAP process typically takes around two to six weeks for elimination, followed by six to eight weeks of guided reintroduction, then ongoing personalisation. Exact timing depends on your symptoms, your response and your lifestyle. Your dietitian will walk you through expected timing at your first appointment.
No. Long-term avoidance of FODMAPs is not the goal and is not recommended. The reintroduction and personalisation phases are designed to expand your diet back out as much as possible, so you finish with the most varied, flexible eating pattern your gut can comfortably tolerate.
