- Low GI Swaps: Make the switch from high GI foods to low GI foods (glycaemic index) such as opting for wholegrain varieties over white varieties of grains to prevent spikes and assist with blood sugar level management.
- Portion Sizes: Monitor portion sizes to avoid blood sugar spikes. Aim for a ¼ of your plate or meal to be carbohydrates like potato or rice.
- Include Protein all the time: Protein can help lower the glycaemic index of your meal, but also assists with satiety levels, meaning you are fuller for longer. Include a lean source of protein such as chicken, turkey, beef, tofu or eggs helps maintain stable energy levels and supports weight management.
